Photo & Drawing contest – Watashi no Finland/ Minun Suomeni/My Finland

With the goal of fostering interest in Finland and to further promote understanding between Japan and Finland, the embassy of Finland in Tokyo and The Finnish Institute in Japan present “Photo & Drawing contest- Watashi no Finland/ Minun Suomeni/My Finland”. The contest is open to all Finns and friends of Finland. The project is part of the programme for the centenary celebrations of Finland’s independence internationally.

The contest has three thematic categories:
1. Photo which represent “Watashi no Finland/ Minun Suomeni/My Finland” (for all ages)
2. Drawing which represent “Watashi no Finland/ Minun Suomeni/My Finland” (for participants over 12 years of age)
3. Child category for drawing “Watashi no Finland/ Minun Suomeni/My Finland” (Child is defined as under 12 years of age as of 1 April 2017)

Theme: “Watashi no Finland/ Minun Suomeni/My Finland”

Entry period
From March 24th (Fri) through May 8th (Mon)


Any child or adult from anywhere in the world, taking into account the age categories


Entries will be evaluated by the following jury.

Contest results will be announced in late May 2017 in organizers’ web sites and social media channels.
*The timing of winner announcement may change depending on the judging process.


The winner of each category will be selected by the jury and will be announced in organizers’ website/SNS channels in late May 2017. The winners, as well as a selection of honorary mentions, will get prizes provided by the embassy and sponsor companies.

Entry specifications
Photography (category 1)
– Only online entries will be eligible. Please send the photo data to with the entry form below.
– Number of entries: each entrant may submit up to 3 photo entries.
– Each image must be in JPEG format and be 2 megabytes or smaller in file size. Please keep the original high-resolution files of your submissions. If the submission is selected as a finalist or winner, the entrant may be asked to send the high-resolution files.

Drawings (category 2 & 3)
– Drawing picture size: A3(297×420mm) or smaller
– Any means of direct drawing, painting, or coloring-crayon, colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic or oil paint, ink, wood or linocut printing, digital, etc.-is allowed. However, works with pasted elements will not be accepted.
– Number of entries: Only one entry per individual is allowed. Only original, previously unexhibited works will be accepted for the contest.
– Download the entry form shown below, fill out the required areas, and paste to the back of your artwork. Mail the original version of your drawing to us by postal service. Do not fold or roll up your artwork. Send it in a flat envelope, inserting cardboard or something firm to ensure it does not bend during shipping. Do not bring your work to the embassy.

The exhibition of award-winning photos and drawings may be shown in several places in Japan and/or Finland. We may use the photos and drawings to promote Finland in the future also via web or social media channels.

Conditions of Entry
– Works may be exhibited, displayed and published by the Embassy of Finland in Tokyo and Finnish institute in Japan. Works may also be modified and used on website, advertisements, images and publications for public relations and advertisement purposes without further consent or compensation.
– Ownership of submitted works belongs to the Embassy of Finland in Tokyo and Finnish Institute in Japan. Original pictures will not be returned.
– The permission of a parent or guardian is required for entry, when the entrants are under the age of 18.
– Personal information provided with the entry will be used to contact prize winners. The names and possibly the ages of the winners will be published.

– By taking a part on our contest the participants commit to follow the organizers decisions and the rules mentioned earlier.
– The organizers reserve the right for changes by informing about them on their websites.
– The organizers are not taking any legal responsibility for any participant who commits infringement of copyright law.
